Biyans Biological Products was founded in 2009 at METU KOSGEB. They won an entrepreneurship competition with a project titled, 'Mine Detection System with Biological Approach'. Biyans was subsequently supported by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology. Since then they have worked on a broad range of topics, each contributing to respectful and sustainable solutions for life sciences. The dissemination of information connecting the scientific world and society is central to their mission.
Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) for elemental detection in the soil intends to address challenges that agriculture specialists and farmers face in determining elements in the soil with in situ measurements. It also aims to detect heavy metals on-site and pave the way for further work in food security sector. Another focus is monitoring climate change response by tracking soil elements and effects on land quality. Biyans also envisages the usage of LIBS to detect metals in waste plants for efficient recycling and waste reduction for environmental sustainability.
Their focus on science education and citizen science stems from their vision that when more people are involved with science, more adaptive strategies can be fostered and put into practice. Science learning is an essential part and a central value of Biyans.
